Sightseeing in Liverpool and Chester

Hi, everyone!

How are you today? Is autumn approaching? I love autumn in Japan:

there's so much delicious food to look forward to!

Last time I told you that my ex-student, Yoko, from Toyama came to see me.

Let me tell you more about her visit...

We started our day with a walk to the Anglican cathedral in Liverpool. In

the UK, a place can receive "city status" if it has a cathedral. Liverpool

is unique because we have two cathedrals. The Anglican cathedral is the

largest in the UK and the fifth largest in the world! We walked through

the beautiful chapel and went right up to the top of the tower to see a

great view of Liverpool city centre. Here are some pictures of the chapel

and the view from the top of the cathedral...

After that, we had our very successful conversation afternoon which I

wrote about last time. (Please look at my previous article if you want to

know more.)

In the evening we walked around Liverpool's famous waterfront, an area of

old warehouses that have been converted into shops, restaurants, pubs, and

museums. You can see the nice atmosphere of the waterfront in the picture

at the top of this article.

The next day, we decided to explore Chester, an old Roman town about 50

minutes on the train from Liverpool. We took a short riverboat cruise

during which we saw some lovely architecture and greenery. What do you

think about it?

Chester is famous for its city wall, which we walked around and then headed

back to the river for Yoko to enjoy some traditional Cheshire ice cream...

We finished the day at one of my favourite cafe's in Liverpool. It is so

comfy and easygoing that we spent 3 whole hours there chatting and eating!

The food is all vegetarian or vegan so it is very healthy and I loved every

Once again I will say it: when I taught Yoko 15 years ago, neither if us

imagined we would meet again in my home country in the future! But, thanks

to her interest in English and motivation to study, we can now spend

time as friends on this side of the world. Through determination and

courage, Yoko has made one of her dreams come true and made her old teacher

(me) very happy. Let's all continue to reach for our dreams...!

I hope you're all well and have a great week. See you again next time!

Best wishes, from Corrina. ☺️
